Critter and Kuribo
Left Leg of Exodia

Combo #4, added on September 8, 2002:

This combo is so simple that it could be easily overlooked, yet it is amazingly useful.

One of the most devastating things about the Devil Franken Combo is it's ability to come out of nowhere and destroy you in a single turn.  Because of this, Kuribo is a virtual necessity in all decks.  However, it can often be hard to make room in a deck for this little fuzzball.

Almost every deck plays Critters and Black Forest Witches.  They're very useful for thinning your deck and getting cards in your hand when you want them.  This makes them great with Kuribo, and mainly against a Devil Franken Deck.  Because Devil Franken is basically a one-shot hit-or-miss tactic, a Kuribo is the ultimate way to foil it.  If a Waboku is used, your opponent will simply delay the use of Devil Franken for a turn.

However, the way Devil Franken decks work is like this: first they kill all of your traps and magic, then they kill all of your monsters, and then they proceed to use Devil Franken to kill you.  It is very advantageous to have a Black Forest Witch or Critter on the field when Devil Franken goes off.  This means you can search for a Kuribo.

What's more is that your opponent will now know that you have a Kuribo.  They might be bold, use Devil Franken, and get rid of your Kuribo, praying that their Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon will survive for another turn.  However, only a foolish player would play like that.  A smarter player knows that you have Kuribo in your hand and that it will have be gone before they can use Devil Franken.  This means that as long as you hold the Kuribo, you can be assured that the Devil Franken strategy will not be played.

Additionally, this allows you to have only a single Kuribo in your deck, because you can still get it by searching.  It is not as reliable as having 3, but if you can only fit in a single Kuribo, that's better than none at all.
